Event Reports from the 2010-2011 Syllabus:

April 17th - At Home Lunch

The At Home Lunch was well attended and once again we were treated to a superb lunch at the Masonic Hall, Douglas.

If that wasn't enough we were then priveleged to hear our guest speaker, Donald Gelling, relay many very amusing anecdotes of his school days and his time in Office.

May 5th - TE Brown Garlanding Ceremony

This annual event to commemorate the birthday of T E Brown, took place in the Glen Falcon Gardens, Douglas.

May 15th - Electric Tram Trip to Ramsey

I'm pleased to report that, unlike last year, the sun was shining for this event. Ernie Cleator produced one of his infamous quizzes for us to complete along the way and congratulations must go to the winners, Jake and James. A most enjoyable day was had by all. ..... Incidently the tram whistle blows 72 times from Douglas to Ramsey!

June 17th - St Johns Evening

Was it the anticipation of an excellent supper or the promise of wonderful entertainment that lead to this event being well attended? In any case both the supper, produced once again by the Kennaugh family and the beautiful voices of Marlene Hendy and Dilys Sowrey did not disappoint. A great evening was enjoyed by all.

Tynwald Celebrations

July 3rd - Annual Gathering and Dinner

Our Annual Gathering took place at the Masonic Hall, Douglas. Amongst the guests we were priveleged to meet for the first time was the President of the Queensland Manx Society, Mrs Val Ashworth and her husband Tony. Other special guest included the Mayor and Mayoress of Douglas, Mr and Mrs Richard McNicoll and how wonderful it was to see old friends such as the President of the London Manx Society, Stewart Christian, Joyce and Malcom Kinley and of course Mr Rumble. As is tradition, this year's Cleveland Medal Winner, sang for us. Andrew Williamson treated us to eight pieces, many of them traditional Manx songs, beautifully sung and befitting the occasion.

July4th - Homecomers Service

Our Homecomers Service took place at Crosby Methodist Chapel. The Service was taken by John Kennaugh with readings by our President, Peter Kelly and Chairman, Wynn Kneale. Onchan Ladies Choir were our special guests, accompanied by Madeline Kelly. A sumptious supper was served in the Hall after the Service and thanks to all those who contributed once again to make this a very special occasion. Homecomers, members and locals alike enjoyed this very Manx evening and it was a wonderful opportunity to have a cooish until very late in the evening!

July 5th - Tynwald Day

Many thanks to Jack Kaighin, John Quirk, Mary Crellin and all those who helped to set up the stalls in the Homecomers tent. A successful day was had, which helped to raise awareness of the WMA.
