WORLD MANX ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER 2010

logo-small

Fastyr mie and welcome to our newsletter of 2011!

Roll of Honour
It is with great sadness we report the passing of Hazel Murphy. Hazel had been a dedicated member of the WMA and served as our secretary from 1997 until 2009. She will be very sadly missed by the Committee, members of the WMA and all those who were privileged to know her. Our sympathies are extended to her husband, Terry and family.

Sadly, we also report the passing of Doris Lawson. Doris was a former treasurer of the WMA from 1990 until 2001 and later became a Hon Vice – President and again she will be missed by all who knew and worked with her.

2009
Last year was a very busy year for us, with a packed syllabus. The outings and events were enjoyed by all those who attended them and varied from a trip to Lhea Kerrow Farm in Andreas to view the new milking system to our Annual Gathering and Dinner!
Our annual dinner was attended by visiting dignitaries from many affiliated associations, home comers and members. It was wonderful to see old friends from NAMA, Australia, New Zealand to name but a few and meet new, such as Henry Kelly from the Luxembourg Manx Society. The Luxembourg Manx Society was formed in 2009 and is the latest association to be affiliated with the WMA.

2010
This year promises to be just as busy, with many of the events suitable for all the family. We have had a lot of interest in the WMA over the past year from younger members and those with young families so hopefully our forth coming events reflect this. Contact details can be found at the end of this newsletter, so if you are interested in any of the outings or events please do not hesitate to give us a call and we can fill you in on all the details.
Our website is now up and running and we are now on Facebook, this is all thanks to David Weimar, our web creator.
Further to our AGM, which took place at St Andrews on March 6th,  we now extend a warm welcome to our newly elected president, Mr Peter Kelly, who many members will know from his ‘Kelly’s Eye’ feature on Manx Radio. Peter, a well known local historian, is also a member of various Manx historical and heritage groups and for many years has worked for Onchan Commissioners, managing their in-house archives. Our thanks go to Doreen Bell, who has served so well as President for the past two years. We are pleased to report that Doreen will still be a member of the Committee.

2011
In 2011 we celebrate our centenary! Plans are already in the pipeline to ensure this is a wonderful year for us, with most of the events being staged around the Tynwald Celebrations and as soon as they are finalized we will let you all know.  We hope to produce a booklet tracing the history of the WMA, with memories and anecdotes from our more senior members. This booklet would be accompanied by a CD to enable readers to actually hear the spoken word of those involved. We thought it would be a wonderful to expand this idea to include those members from Associations overseas and this is where we ask for your help. Do you know of any senior members who would be willing to record their memories of how they joined your Association, what year they joined, reasons for emigrating, family history and any memories or thoughts they may have etc?

If you would like to contribute to this project please email us at the following address:
